AMD’s New Radeon 9070 XT vs NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti: The Ultimate Performance Showdown

The Battle for the Graphics Card Heats Up: Is AMD Finally Catching Up?

Things have been buzzing in the world of the graphics card ever since NVIDIA released its RTX 5090, and then kept us all waiting in anticipation for its most awaited RTX 5070 Ti and 5070 series. Meanwhile, though, there has been murmuring among consumers angry at prices increasing fourfold and supplies getting scarce. In this tumultuous market, a fresh entrant is AMD’s Radeon 9070 XT. But what does it have to offer in comparison to the RTX 5070 Ti? Let’s get close and personal with an in-depth comparison to find out which of these GPUs represents the best value for your dollar when it comes to gaming and professional applications.

NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Series: Incremental Upgrades, Exorbitant Price Hikes

To start with, let’s take a look at NVIDIA’s latest releases, the RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti. The 5070 family did change a bit compared to last generation, however, with an increase in CUDA cores (roughly 4% for the non-Ti model, and 17% for the 5070 Ti). Memory bandwidth also increased, with the 5070 Ti possessing 16GB of GDDR7 RAM. The overall core design is essentially the same as what they’ve used for previous RTX cards, though, which has led many to question if the extreme price bump is worth it.

The 5070 series also has higher power requirements: the 5070 Ti draws 285W, and the standard 5070 draws 250W—substantially higher than the last generation. Despite these boosts, however, the overall performance enhancements are fairly minor, so the cost point seems a bit higher than it needs to be to most consumers.

AMD Radeon 9070 XT: A Challenger to Contend With

Enter AMD’s Radeon 9070 XT, which AMD claims can rival the performance of NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti. Sporting the new RDNA 4 architecture, the 9070 XT introduces significant improvements in ray tracing performance and AI-based upscaling technologies. The card features 16GB of GDDR6 memory and operates at a TGP (Total Graphics Power) of 300W, which is similar to the 5070 Ti’s 285W.

While the 9070 XT is smaller physically than the 5070 Ti, it has a good quality 3-fan cooling solution and sturdy construction. Price would be the greatest selling point for this card with AMD placing the 9070 XT at $599, quite lower than that of the 5070 Ti at $749.

Benchmark Results: A Mixed Bag

For a comparison of the two GPUs, we performed a number of benchmark tests meant to test the raw performance of the two boards, their performance in ray tracing, and frame rates for in-game rendering. The results were interesting, at least.

  • 3DMark Speedway Test:The 9070 XT beat the RTX 5070 by about 6.5%, and 21% ahead of the 5070 Ti.
  • Port Royal Test (Ray Tracing): The 9070 XT here performed 27% better than the 5070, and 5% better than the 5070 Ti.
  • Time Spy Benchmark: Here, the 9070 XT dominated, performing 88% better than the 5070 Ti.
  • Gaming Performance (Monster Hunter World): Running in QHD resolution, the 9070 XT had faster frame rates at 13% over the 5070 Ti. Even at a 4K resolution, there was no difference with the gap still present though narrower.

In certain tests, though, the 5070 Ti stood its ground, most particularly in dealing with AI-oriented tasks such as the Geekbench AI test, where it managed to hold its own in some cases to surpass the 9070 XT. But in many gaming tests, the Radeon 9070 XT took the lead, making it a heavy hitter for the best performance at affordable prices.

The Price-to-Performance Ratio: AMD Takes the Lead

Where both cards provide excellent performance, the clincher is cost in this case. The $599 price tag on the Radeon 9070 XT provides enormous value compared to the $749 price tag of the 5070 Ti. AMD’s product provides consumers with a strong incentive to choose it over NVIDIA’s premium-priced models, particularly if they want great gaming performance without paying the steep price tag of an expensive premium.

However, if you’re looking at specific use cases such as video editing or CUDA-accelerated applications, NVIDIA still has a clear advantage due to its mature software ecosystem and CUDA cores. But for everyday gaming, especially at 1440p or 4K, the 9070 XT holds its own and then some.

Final Thoughts: AMD’s 9070 XT vs NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti

If you are looking to upgrade or building a new GPU, the AMD Radeon 9070 XT is definitely worth your consideration. It is a direct competitor to NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti and, at a significantly lower price point, is an incredible value for the budget-conscious gamer. The 5070 Ti, while an incredibly good card, might only be worth the extra cost to you if you have a particular use for CUDA cores or if you are a hard-core enthusiast who likes NVIDIA’s DLSS 4.0 technology.

In the end, AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture has proven a good contender, and the 9070 XT is a decent adversary to the too-often overpriced NVIDIA cards. If price-to-performance ratio is your top priority, then the 9070 XT is a decent option.
